What
is the organization of the HFPD?
The HFPD has a three person Board of Trustees,
Chief, Deputy Chief, 3 Captains and 3 Lieutenants. The Chief is Patrick
Slowey and the Deputy Chief is Steve Harter.
How
many ambulances does the HFPD have?
The HFPD has 3 Advanced Life Support (ALS)
ambulances.
What
EMS system does the HFPD belong to?
HFPD is part of the Rock River Region EMS
system that affiliated with Rockford Memorial Hospital. The EMS program
at RMH is headed by Dr. Dennis Uehara. RMH is a Trauma Level 1 hospital
and a teaching hospital. This has proven to be a good combination
for providing resources to the district.
What
are the office hours of the HFPD?
The Records Division of HFPD is open from
8:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week.
From 7:00 A.M. to 5 P.M. 7 days a week the station is staffed by a Paramedic
and an EMT except when on calls. During the above hours, there is a Call
Button to the right of the front door to call for entrance to the building.
How

You can contact any member by calling the
department at 815-943-6927. A message will be taken and given to
the member. Or, you can send any member an email (see
personnel email addresses).
When
is the station staffed?
HFPD fire station is staffed seven days
a week by one Paramedic and one EMT between the hours of 7 am to 5 pm to
provide rapid response to all calls.
What
specialty teams does the district have?
HFPD has a SCUBA dive team that is part
of the McHenry County MABAS 5 Dive Team. Given the amount of water
in ponds, small lakes and streams within the district, the district felt
it was import to provide this vital service to the district. We are
also forming a Technical Rescue Team with MABAS Division 5.
We can contact Lake County for any Haz-Mat incidents that occur in our
community.
Where
does the HFPD get its training?
The district's desire to provide highly
qualified Emergency Medical System (EMS) and Fire professionals is exemplified
by its on-going commitment to continuing education. Training sessions are
held two times a month at the fire station. Employees are also offered
training opportunities from outside the fire district. HFPD also
holds certification courses at its facilities. Members of the department
have also attended courses through Rockford Memorial Hospital such as Advanced
Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), EMT-Paramedic program and others. These
courses range from a one day seminar to full semester classes.
What
is a controlled burn?
A controlled burn is a training exercise
where a building, a vehicle or another item is burned. These burns
can take hours, days, and weeks of planning to ensure they can be controlled,
to organize the way they burn, and to ensure that training goals are met.
