highlights of our history:

Men got together to purchase a fire engine for the Village of Harvard. |
| 1871 |
Great Chicago Fire - Harvard sends
pumper via the train. |
| 1892 |
Kenosha, WI - Harvard's hand pumper
is once again loaded on the train to help another community. |
| 1899 |
First constitution and by-laws
are drawn up to form Harvard Fire Department. |
| 1956 |
Harvard Rescue Squad founded by
$7,000 donation from Harvard Jaycees. |
| 1971 |
City and Rural Fire Departments
merge to form Harvard Fire Protection District. |
| 1973 |
Illinois Starts EMT (Emergency
Medical Tech) Program. |
| 1996 |
Harvard Rescue Squad merges with
Harvard Fire Protection District. The District has two divisions
under one chief: an EMS Division and a Fire Division. Each
division chief has 2 captains and 2 lieutenants reporting to them. |
| 1999 |
Harvard Fire Protection District
moves into a new station. Start the year 2000 with a new station. |
| 2000 |
HFPD implements a single division
with one Chief, a Deputy Chief, 3 Captains and 3 Lieutenants. |
| 2001 |
HFPD purchases 3 new vehicles
to make response better for our community: a 2001 Ford Grass Rig, 2001
Well Cargo Trailer for our Dive Team, and a 2001 Horton Ambulance. |
| 2003 |
HFPD hires a Full-time FireFighter/Paramedic
to staff the station 40 hours per week. |
